I purchased the 36", 5-burner Bosch 800 series cooktop. I was looking for a powerful center burner for boiling pasta water, and a low simmer feature (which I had on my old DCS and loved). The center burner is advertised as 18,000 BTUs. NOWHERE does it say that with the propane conversion kit ($100. extra, which seems gouging), it's only 15,000 BTUs, the same as the 5000 series with LP conversion. The Opti-sim feature info fails to mention that ONE burner is low, and it's the small 5500 BTU back burner. Not the most convenient position to stir something simmering. I would not purchase this again. I feel that I did not get the features I paid for.
The unit looks nice, feels sturdy. But no extra-low simmer on the majority of the burners, and if you have propane, you're not getting the 18,000 BTUs you thought.
Bosch needs clearer sales info up front.
